Lady Elliot Island offers the most unique experience on the Great Barrier Reef! Because of it’s location far offshore in the Great Barrier Reef the water surrounding the island has fantastic clarity and the island is renowned to be one of the best spots in Australia for snorkelling and scuba diving. The island itself is located at the southern tip of the Great Barrier Reef approximately 80km North-East of Bundaberg. The only way to get to the island is by plane and the closest mainland is Hervey Bay however there are other departure points in Bundaberg, Brisbane and the Gold Coast. The island is part of a ‘Green No Take’ zone on the Great Barrier Reef which is one of the highest protection zones meaning all items must be left untouched. There are a limited amount of people allowed on the island each day to ensure minimal impact to the environment and a premium experience is provided to all visitors. The island has over 1,200 different marine species including a resident population of 40 manta rays and encounters with Loggerhead Turtles is a daily occurrence. There is only one resort and accommodation available on the island which is the Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort.
